Role
Full-stack development: design and build of the mobile app

Spendza is a savings app that splits one wallet into named envelopes, one per goal. Plainbuilt designed and built it full stack and delivered it in under 6 months: 10 iOS screens covering the wallet, the envelope grid and detail, transfers to another wallet by ID, the card form and the account pages. The design rests on one line: every goal is an envelope with a target and a date.

Who is Spendza for?

One person managing their own money on their phone. The screens show one wallet, one balance and envelopes named for what the person is saving toward: Home, Car, Shoes, Vacation, Bike, Clothes. There is no second role, no marketplace and no business side; the transfer flow reaches another person only through their wallet ID.

What did Plainbuilt build?

The whole app, full stack, on four tabs: home, wallet, envelope and profile. Home shows the wallet balance, three service tiles (Add Money, Set Reminder, My Reminders), a Create new envelope card and the recent transactions. The wallet holds a shareable wallet ID, the balance, Deposit and Withdraw, the transaction history and the two transfer routes. The envelope tab lists every envelope with its deposit amount and an Add New Envelope button; the detail screen shows the gauge, the completion date and the deposits. The transfer flow verifies a wallet ID, takes an amount and pays from the balance or a saved card, with a hosted web form for a new card and a modal that confirms the payment. The profile holds the cards, the password, the terms, the privacy policy, help, the FAQ, the about page, logout and delete account, and the Stripe connection a withdrawal needs.

What does the envelope flow look like?

From home, Create new envelope. On the envelope tab, six envelopes sit in a two-column grid, each with its deposit amount and the open one in teal. Tapping one shows the gauge: the amount added, the target, the completion date. Under it, the deposits that got it there, each dated with its amount. One yellow button sends the money back to the wallet.

Why does the detail screen open on a gauge?

Because the question on opening an envelope is how close it is. A semicircle in teal against black answers that at a glance, with the amount added, the target and the completion date inside the arc. The deposits list is under it, for the person who wants to check the record rather than the progress.

How does a person put money aside for a goal?

Money is split into named envelopes: Home, Car, Shoes, Vacation, Bike and Clothes on the grid, each with its own deposit amount, and an Add New Envelope button under them. Opening one shows a gauge of what has been added against the target ($3,860 of $5,000 on the screen), the completion date, and the deposits that got it there. One yellow button sends the money back to the wallet.

Where does the money sit between goals?

In one wallet. The screen opens with the wallet ID, with copy and share beside it so another person can pay into it, then the balance. Under that, Deposit and Withdraw, and three routes: the transaction history, transfer to envelopes and transfer to another wallet.

Can they send money to someone else?

Yes, by wallet ID. The person enters the other wallet's ID and verifies it; the recipient shows with a verified mark. Then an amount, and a choice under Pay Via: the wallet balance or a saved card, with Add New Card opening a hosted web form for the card holder name, expiry, CVV and number. Proceed sends it, and a modal confirms the payment went through.

What does the home screen keep in front of them?

The wallet balance first, under the logo and the line Save Money Strategically to Achieve Your Goals. Then three service tiles (Add Money, Set Reminder, My Reminders), a Create new envelope card, a promo banner and the recent transactions. The four-tab bar under it goes to home, wallet, envelope and profile.

What does the account hold?

My Cards, Change Password, Term of Use, Privacy Policy, Help and Support, FAQ and About, then Logout and Delete Account as two separate cards. A banner at the bottom says a Stripe connection is required before a withdrawal, with the Connect Stripe button on it.

The decisions

  • One envelope per goal.

Money for a goal has its own named envelope with a target amount and a completion date. The grid shows six at once with the deposit on each, so the person sees every goal on one screen and opens one to see how close it is.

  • The wallet is the hub.

Every dollar passes through one wallet: deposits, withdrawals, transfers into envelopes and transfers to another wallet. The wallet ID sits at the top of the screen with copy and share, so being paid is a matter of sending the ID.

  • A gauge before the numbers.

The envelope detail opens on a semicircle in teal against black, with the amount added, the target and the completion date inside the arc. The deposits list sits under it for the person who wants the record.

  • Pay from the balance or a card.

On a transfer the person picks the wallet balance or a saved card under Pay Via. A new card is added through a hosted web form rather than a screen of the app's own, so the card fields sit on that form.
